2019 Bodegas Alceno Sierra de Enmedio Rosado
Bottle (75 cl - Standard)
Bodegas Alceno is a family owned winery from Jumilla wine region in Spain. Founded in 1870, it is considered to be the first winery in the region. Nowadays Bodegas Alceno belongs to the Bastida family and continues to adapt traditional winemaking processes with modern technology. Their main focus is to create good quality Spanish wines that mirror the ancestry of Jumilla terroir.
Jumilla is an emergent wine region from Spain, located West from Murcia. Red wines from Jumilla are predominantly made from Monastrell grapes. About 80% of the entire wine region grows Monastrell followed by Garnacha, Garnacha Tintorera, Cencibel, Macabeo, Airén, Pedro Ximénez, Malvasia and Chardonnay. Also other international varieties such as Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon generate high quality wines here. But to be considered a genuine Jumilla red wine it must incorporate at least 80% Monastrell.
Mourvedre (Monastrell) Wines
Mourvedre is a black-skinned grape variety from Spain and also intensely cultivated in southern France, California and South Australia. Mourvedre wines are meaty with herby aromas and strong tannins which make them perfect to be matched with Syrah and Grenache in the famous GSM wines from Rhone Valley. In Spain the variety is known as Monastrell and stands alongside Tempranillo and Garnacha. In Australia and California, Mourvedre wines are very rich and more fruit-forward.
