Dornfelder Wines

Dornfelder is a red wine grape variety created in 1956 by August Herold as a crossing of Helfensteiner and Heroldrebe grape varieties. Dornfelder is the second most cultivated grape in Germany and it is especially found in the Rheinhessen and Pfalz regions. Dornfelder is usually made in a trocken (dry) style alongside Germany's most popular red grape variety, Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir).
