Sicily Wines
Sicily is the southernmost wine region of Italy and the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. Nowadays many of the best Sicilian wines are dry table wines produced under the regional IGT title Terre Siciliane, Etna DOC or the Sicilia DOC. The key grape varieties used in Sicilian wines are a combination of native varieties with international new imports. To name a few Nero d'Avola, Catarratto, Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio are the most important native grape varieties.
Carricante Wines
Carricante is an ancient white wine grape variety from Sicily, on the slopes of Mount Etna. Carricante wines are usually produced under Etna DOC (Etna Bianco or Etna Bianco Superiore) appellation and are very well regarded for their good acidity and refreshing citrus aromas that vary from lemon to orange notes followed by invigorating mint and anise flavours with a touch of minerality. When aged the wine reveals green apple pie notes, honey hints and a creamy texture.
