Tokaj Wines
Tokaj holds the title of the most famous wine region in Hungary thanks to its renowned botrytized Tokaji dessert wines. The main viticultural centres here are the towns of Mad, Tarcal and of course Tokaj. The grape varieties used in making Tokaji wines are Furmint, Harslevelu and Sárgamuskotály (Muscat Blanc). Furmint, which dominates the Tokaji wines, is famous for its naturally high acidity, high sugar levels and peppery aromatic profile. Very promising dry whites from this region!
Sargamuskotaly (Moscato Giallo) Wines
Sargamuskotaly or Moscato Giallo is one of Muscat family members, mostly found in Trentino-Alto Adige wine region in Italy. Moscato Giallo grapes have musky flavours, thick skins and high levels of sugar which makes them great for the production of lusciously sweet wines. Besides Alto Adige and other Italian wine regions such as Friuli or Veneto, Moscato Giallo is very popular in Hungary’s famous Tokaj wine region under Sargamuskotaly name.
