Dalmatian Coast Wines
Dalmatia is an important wine region in Croatia, with a tradition in winemaking that goes back to the times of the Phoenicians and ancient Greece. Nowadays Dalmatian wines are produced from traditional varieties such as Plavac Mali (a relative of Primitivo and Zinfandel that creates deeply flavored, cocoa-scented red wines), Posip, Grk and Vugava which are sometimes mixed with international varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay.
Plavac Mali Wines
Plavac Mali is a red wine grape variety originating from Croatia. It provides some of the best Croatian wines and is one of the most cultivated grapes in the country. They are thick-skinned with high sugar concentration. Plavac Mali wines are generally dense and rich in black cherry flavors with hints of pepper, smoke and spices. They are usually to be found on the Dalmatian Coast.
