2017 Vina Chocalan Vitrum Malbec
Bottle (75 cl - Standard)
Viña Chocalan is a Chilean winery from the famous Maipo Valley wine region. The winery owns 340 hectares of vineyards where it cultivates grape varieties such as Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Carmenere and Chardonnay. Viña Chocalan wines are very well regarded. Generally speaking the reds are very intense both in flavours and in colour, fruit-forward, followed by a refreshing and natural acidity.
Maipo Valley Wines
Maipo Valley is one of the most important wine producing regions in Chile. Home of the best Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon wines it is often referred to as 'South America's Bordeaux'. There are also substantial plantings of Carmenère vines, as the warmer climate is well suited to this iconic Chilean red wine grape. Besides Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere, Maipo Valley wines are very well represented by Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
Malbec Wines
Malbec is a black-skinned grape variety from Cahors AOC in South West France. After phylloxera it has become the iconic red wine variety in Argentina (Mendoza wine region). Generally speaking French Malbec wines are meaty and quite tannic while Argentinian Malbecs tend to be rich, jammy and juicy. But they both have great aging potential. Besides occupying 70% of Cahors vineyards, Malbec is also a common grape in some Bordeaux red wines and has a strong influence in California.
