Catalonia Wines
Catalonia is a very important wine region in Spain. Compared to other wine regions in Spain, Catalonia is very different because there is a strong French influence. Thus, Spanish wines from Catalonia are highly regarded because of the Champagne-style sparkling wine Cava and its red table wines. While the red wines are mainly made from Tempranillo, Garnacha and Monastrell grapes, for cava the catalan winemakers use exclusively Macabeo, Parellada, Xarel-lo and Chardonnay varieties.
Xarel-lo Wines
Xarel-Io is white wine grape variety from Catalonia, Spain and is considered to be one of the most planted varieties in the region. Alongside Macabeo and Parellada grape varieties, Xarel-Io has a key role in the production of sparkling Cava- a sparkling wine made in the traditional method. The variety is highly appreciated for its acidity and great structure it brings to the wine. Xarel-Io is also known for the production of white table wines rich in stone fruit flavours and lemon like acidity.
